D
avid Trasoff began organizing his performances of North Indian classical music under the name Classical Ragas in 1984 to invoke the proud heritage of historical tradition represented by the lineage of his teacher, maestro Ali Akbar Khan. In 1994, David and Abhiman Kaushal began collaborating in their efforts to introduce North Indian classical music to American audiences. Their intention was to present genuine performances of the traditional ragas in a way that juxtaposed that tradition with the new circumstances of musical globalization, joining these two artists of different origins in common purpose.

The ensemble joined Chamber Music America in 1997, and has been featured in articles in several Chamber Music America magazine issues and directories. Both David Trasoff and Abhiman Kaushal are active teachers in the greater Los Angeles area, at the University of California, Los Angeles, the California Institute of the Arts, Pomona College and other institutions, and privately. Both artists have collaborated on a wide range of film and recording projects.
